Shrek Text

Introduction:

In this tutorial, we will learn to make a text that is similar to the one used in the movie Shrek. This is a fun design style that can be used for multiple applications when creating design. You can swap out the green gradient in this tutorial with whichever color you want to give it some variety.

Step-By-Step:

1. Open a new document in Photoshop. Make sure size of new document is big enough for your text.
2. Select Type Tool and type the words you want. Make sure that the vowels are lowercase.

3. Using the Type Tool, select all letters except for the first letter of the word and reduce their size so the first letter looks larger.

4. Goto the Layers Palette, right click the layer, and Rasterize the Type.

5. Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool and select around lowercase "e".

6. Select the Move Tool and move the "e" up so that it is even with the top of the other letters in the word.

7. Click CTRL + D to deselect.

8. Open the layer properties to make changes.
9. Change the properties of "Bevel and Emboss" to the following:

11. Change the properties of "Gradient Overlay" to the following:
(Choose a Dark Green to Light Green gradient)

12. Change the properties of "Stroke" to the following:
(Choose a Dark Green to Light Green gradient similar to the colors you used in Step 11)

13. Click OK and you should have something similar to the effect below:

14. Create a new layer below the "Shrek Text" layer.
15. Click CTRL + E to merge the two layers together (thereby permanently making the layer styles part of the text).

16. Goto Filter > Noise > Add Noise...
17. Change the "Add Noise" properties to the following until you get a grainy look to the text.

18. You should have your Shrek Text similar to below:

19. Open the layer styles for the Shrek Text.
20. Change the properties of "Drop Shadow" to the following:

21. You now have your completed Shrek Text!
